Born Surrey. Died Dumfries. One of Britain's foremost bird artists, author and ornithologist.
Educated at Edinburgh Academy and Oxford University. Founder member of the Scottish Ornithologist's Club. He illustrated over thirty books including the Oxford book of British Birds. He lived in St John's Town of Dalry with his wife Joan and their four children.
