Artist William Hanna Clarke was born in Glasgow, he settled in Kirkcudbright in 1916.
Hanna Clarke started his career as a dentist. He began attending night classes at Glasgow School of Art in 1909. In 1913 he gave up his dentistry career become a full time artist. A landscape and figure painter, he was tragically killed during construction of his new house in Kirkcudbright in 1924.
